The Philly Touch Center for the Blind

The Philly Touch Center is a community and educational facility in the greater Philadelphia area with a focus on promoting higher education and independent living for the visually impaired.

Mock Apartment

A standout feature of the center is the mock apartment fully designed around an open space apartment. For the visually impaired, open spaces are harder to navigate because of the lack of sound reverberation. Designing an open space apartment allows the students to learn the hardest means of navigation which encourages higher learning and understanding of an independent living situation. The students are taught everyday household activities such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, and even making their beds and hanging clothes. The goal for the mock apartment is to increase the understanding and importance of independent living.

Professional Lounge

The professional lounge offers a space for the educators and staff to go and relax in between shifts, classes, or organized activities.

App and Interface design

While conducting research, the topic of interfaces within a facility and the increase of positive interaction that patrons can have within a space inspired my collaboration with an industrial/ graphic designer to create an app and interface system. This system is implemented throughout the center as well as offering a geo point and GPS system for specific locations that the center has chosen in Philadelphia.
